storylabMeath County Council Library Service has a great summer programme full of free events lined up for children in Meath this year. The summer programme will be launched in July in all Meath Libraries with the ‘Story lab’ summer reading scheme. This is a reading scheme for 6 – 12 year olds where children agree to read six books during July and August and in return they get free stickers, Chatterboxes, door hangers, bookmarks, Fridge Magnets, and a certificate & medal of achievement when they have completed the scheme. Some of the larger libraries are running graduation parties for successful readers who complete the programme in August.

Events run throughout the summer and highlights include Magician shows, Lambert puppet shows, summer arts and crafts, dinosaur workshops, Pretty princess workshops, Wimpy Kid Workshops, film clubs and games activity hours. For our younger members there are Thomas the Tank Engine workshops, Dora, Sesame Street workshops and Mr Men workshops, pyjama parties and parent and toddler stories and songs sessions. There is also a chance to see a variety of animals and learn to look after your pets with our sponsor Equipet. The Equipet Roadshow runs in various libraries around the county.

The service is also running an inter library quiz where teams from each of the libraries in Meath compete for the Inter Library Quiz trophy and great prizes. There will also be a chance for all teams to win spot prizes on the day.

For our teenage members the service has organised a number of events.

For the computer and music fans the service is running a Playstation 3 Challenge sponsored by Sony Ireland for the 7– 12 year olds in various libraries, where there is a chance to win great prizes. There are also ‘Avengers’, and Computer Animation workshops. Oldcastle and Ashbourne Libraries are running a libraries got talent competition in August. This competition is open to all children aged between seven and fourteen. The winning prize is a 100 Euro for the contestant that impresses the judges the most.

The summer programme is run in partnership with the Meath County Council Arts Office and details of times and venues for these events can be obtained in any of the Meath County Council Libraries or alternatively on the Library Web page on www.meath.ie.

All these events are free to the public.storylab2
