March is a busy month for Meath County Council Library Service. The first two weeks include events such as Seachtain na Gaeilge,World Book day and St. Patricks day. The Library Service have been busy organising a wide range of events for all ages to celebrate.

World Book Day was celebrated on Thursday 1st March and the service organised schools events with Children’s Authors Alan Nolan and David Donohoe in Ashbourne, Dunboyne, Navan and Trim Libraries. Alan Nolan has published graphic novels for younger children. Alan engaged the school children in producing their own graphic novels on the day. David Donohoe has written books on spelling backwards and has appeared on many TV shows and radio and David talked to the children about his books and showed them how to spell backwards.

Seachtain na Gaeilge runs from the 5th to the 17th March and events include tráth na gceist competitions in Navan, Dunboyne, Trim, Rathcairn, Dunshaughlin, Oldcastle and Ashbourne Libraries. School children from 5th and 6th classes are invited to send teams for the event. There is a chance to win spot prizes and the Library cup goes to the winning school in each area. For the 3rd and 4th classes the library service has organised bingo as gaeilge in Trim library with opportunities to win spot prizes and book vouchers. Trim is also organising St Patrick’s Day arts and crafts for the under 6s on Tuesday 15th March.

Events for adults include a chance to see well known author Monica McInerney at Navan Library on Thursday 15th March at 7.30pm. The music appreciation club at Ashbourne Library will also have an Irish theme celebrating all types of Irish music during the month of March, with special guests Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann on March 14th at 11am.

The Library service also holds a wide range of books in Irish for all ages.
